Who we are
About us
A community dedicated to the promotion, democratization and co-construction of artificial intelligence in Senegal and Africa.
Our story
Born from a need, driven by a community
GalsenAI was created in 2018, in a context where artificial intelligence was taking over the world, taking on geopolitical stakes. Paradoxically, we found that the subject was little known in Senegal and very rarely discussed. We therefore made it our primary mission to popularize this technology which would become a revolution in the following years.
This paved the way for GalsenAI as an exchange and learning platform, whose mission is to build and popularize a strong and productive AI ecosystem for all of West Africa.
Eight years later, the community brings together more than 17,000 members and drives an active ecosystem: meetups led by ambassadors in universities, technical workshops, hackathons, and the IndabaX, Senegal's branch of the Deep Learning Indaba, the largest AI conference on the African continent.
It brings together designers, developers, entrepreneurs, students and enthusiasts around useful, inclusive and responsible AI.

Our mission
Making artificial intelligence accessible to all by fostering learning, collaboration and the creation of technological solutions adapted to local and African realities.
Our values
Building a strong and recognized African community
Three commitments that guide each of our activities.
-
Training local talent in AI
Meetups, workshops, hackathons and training tracks: the community first shares what it learns.
-
Creating real-impact solutions
Projects rooted in local realities, from Senegalese language processing to agricultural and health applications.
-
Positioning Senegal
Making Senegal a credible AI player in Africa and internationally, through research and pan-African collaborations.
Our identity
The lion and the network
Our logo combines African identity and modern technology. It represents a stylized lion head, emblematic of Senegal and a symbol of strength, leadership, courage and sovereignty.
Here, the lion is not illustrated in a classical way: it is transformed into a neural structure, recalling
- Artificial neural networks
- Data streams
- Learning algorithms
- Distributed intelligence
This fusion between the lion and the network illustrates the meeting of African tradition and technological innovation.
