Read a research paper, together.
The format
Paper Reading is an activity dedicated to reading and discussing research papers. Each session allows the community to dissect a scientific paper and understand its key concepts.
The goal is twofold: make artificial intelligence research accessible to everyone—students, professionals, and researchers alike—and create a collective learning space around current topics, with a particular focus on applications that make sense in the African context.
Sessions are generally held online, making them accessible from any region. No publication is required to attend: the format exists precisely so that research ceases to be reserved only for those who produce it.

What has been read
Six themes covered
Topics discussed during the sessions, from medical applications to model architecture issues.

Medical screening, understanding biological phenomena such as viral mutations, and adapting models to local cultural and health realities.

Automation of heavy tasks for educational institutions, notably the generation of exam topics.

Automatic fact-checking and fight against misinformation, with a focus on African languages for more equitable access to information.

Where the format is heading
Paper Reading will not be limited to reading. Three directions are set for upcoming sessions.

Practical sessions, to experiment with the concepts and methods presented.

Discussions with researchers on AI and data science research: opportunities, scholarships, scientific writing, master's and doctoral paths, research or enterprise.

Discussions on the challenges of research in Africa and on projects capable of addressing local issues.
